The Maybe

Dopamine is the "maybe" chemical. Certainty kills the pull.

MAYBE dopamin pasti iya 50 / 50 pasti enggak
The pull lives in the middle, not at either certain end.
Gap vs Maybe Gap = a known answer is hidden. ("What's the cause?")
Maybe = the outcome is in doubt. ("Will it even work?")
The paradox A bigger, surer promise pulls LESS. Overclaim = disbelieved + lower dopamine. Honest "I'm not sure this works, but..." out-pulls the guru promise. Your honesty is the highest-pull framing there is.

The ethical line

Honest maybe vs rigged tease Promise only the uncertainty you actually have. "I didn't know if this would work" = honest. "You won't BELIEVE #3" over a mundane payoff = rigged, and it burns trust for good.

The three leaks

Fail 1: Fake maybeSuspense over an obvious payoff. → Only tease real uncertainty.
Fail 2: Too certainGuaranteed huge result. Disbelieved + flat. → Admit the doubt.
Fail 3: No stakesMaybe X / maybe Y, nobody cares. → The maybe needs arousal under it.

Sweet spot: a real question, real stakes, an outcome the reader honestly can't predict.

Source: Schultz, on dopamine and reward prediction error, the anticipation signal peaks at maximum uncertainty (50/50), not at a sure reward.
