The Loop Chain
Keep a debt outstanding at all times, and always pay it back.
The iron rule
Every open loop is a promise. Close too early = no pull.
Never close = broken trust. Open loops are debts. Always pay them.
The 4-beat chain
1
Open loop A
Pose the question in the hook. Withhold the answer.
2
Delay
Add story or detail. Let the wait build. Don't answer yet.
3
Stack loop B
Open a second, bigger question BEFORE closing A.
✓
Close A + B
Pay both debts, land the lesson, prompt save / follow.
Rule of thumb: never zero tension until the very end. B opens before A closes.
Four ways to hold a loop open
1 · The "but wait"
Before closing, tease something bigger. "That's not what stopped me."
2 · The withheld noun
Say a thing exists, not what it is. "There's one habit that's making you anxious."
3 · The numbered promise
"3 things I realized", they wait for #3. Best one last.
4 · The unit cliffhanger
End each tweet / slide by pulling to the next. "Slide 3 hits the hardest."
The three leaks
Fail 1: Closed too early
Answer given in the hook. → Withhold it; make them travel to it.
Fail 2: Never closed / fake payoff
Cliffhanger with no reward. Clickbait. → Always pay the debt, for real.
Fail 3: Too many open at once
Brain gives up tracking. → Rhythm: open, close, open, close.
